Privacy Policy
Next Read is a personal reading tracker. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and how it's handled. If anything here is unclear, contact us.
Account & sign-in
Next Read uses Sign in with Apple as its only sign-in method — there's no separate Next Read password to create or leak. Apple gives us a stable, unique identifier for your account; whether Apple also shares your name or email with us depends on the choice you make in Apple's sign-in prompt (you can choose to hide your email from us and still use the app).
What we store
- Your library. The books you add, their status (To Read, Reading, Read, Did Not Finish), ratings, reviews, dates started/finished, and format.
- Your reading goal. An annual book-count target, if you set one.
- Imported data. If you import a Goodreads or CSV export, we read it once to match books into your library; we don't keep the raw file afterward.
This data lives in our database (hosted on Supabase) and is scoped to your account only — other users can never see your library, ratings, or reviews.
Cover photos
If you photograph a book cover to add it, that photo is used only to identify the book — first with on-device text recognition, and if that's not enough, a one-time lookup against an AI vision service. The photo itself is never stored on our servers, never added to any shared book catalog, and never seen by other users.
Removing a book
Removing a book from your library is a soft delete — it disappears from your Library immediately but stays recoverable. If you'd like a single book permanently and irreversibly erased, contact us and we'll take care of it. To erase everything, delete your account (next section).
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app: Settings → Delete Account. This is immediate and permanent. It erases your library, ratings, reviews, reading dates, reading profile, Match Score reports, saved quotes, remaining scans, and your sign-in — Next Read is also removed from your Apple ID's "Sign in with Apple" list. Your purchase record is deleted from RevenueCat. Anonymous cost-accounting totals (how much our AI usage cost in aggregate) are kept with no link to you.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription — subscriptions belong to your Apple ID, not to your Next Read account. Cancel it in iOS Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions, before or after deleting. Export your library first if you want a copy; there is no recovery afterwards.
Exporting your data
You can export your entire library as CSV or JSON at any time, instantly, from inside the app. Exports are generated on demand and downloaded directly to your device — we never email them or store a copy after you've downloaded it.
Subscription (Next Read Plus)
Adding books, importing a library, and every AI-assisted feature require an active Next Read Plus subscription; your existing library stays viewable and exportable either way. Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store your payment details. We use RevenueCat to track whether your subscription is active; see "Who we share data with" below for exactly what it receives.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of service providers to run Next Read, each only for the narrow purpose below:
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting.
- Anthropic (Claude API) — generates your AI reading recommendations and, occasionally, helps identify a photographed cover. We send Claude the book/preference data needed to answer the request, not your account identity.
- Google Books / Open Library — public book metadata lookups (title, author, cover art, page count) by ISBN. No personal data is sent.
- Amazon Associates — "Buy on Amazon" links on recommendation cards are standard affiliate links. Tapping one sends you to Amazon; we don't pass Amazon any of your personal data.
- Resend — if you opt in to reading-goal email reminders (a planned, optional feature), we'll use Resend to send that email to the address associated with your account. We don't use email for anything else — no marketing, no digests you didn't ask for.
- RevenueCat — manages the Next Read Plus subscription and tells us whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives your purchase/subscription status and an anonymous account identifier — never your library, ratings, reviews, or any book data, and never used for advertising or tracking.
We do not sell your data, and we don't run ads or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs in the app.
Children's privacy
Next Read isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
