Terms of Service

Last updated September 27, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Next Read, an iOS app published by Shiloh Software, LLC ("Shiloh Software," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use Next Read.

1. The service

Next Read is a personal reading tracker: you add books to your own library, track your reading status, and optionally use AI-assisted features (Quick Add, Match Score, Ask Your Library, Tonight's Read, and recommendations) to help decide what to read next. See our Privacy Policy for what data we collect and how it's used.

The AI-assisted features are opinions generated from your library and public book data, not professional or definitive judgments. We don't guarantee their accuracy, and you're responsible for your own reading and purchasing decisions.

2. Accounts

Next Read uses Sign in with Apple. You're responsible for safeguarding access to the Apple ID associated with your account and for all activity under it. You must be able to form a binding contract to use Next Read — generally, 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live; a minor may use the app only with a parent or guardian's consent and involvement.

3. Next Read Plus (subscription)

Certain features — adding books, importing a library, and every AI-assisted feature — require an active Next Read Plus subscription. Your own existing library remains viewable and exportable at no cost even without a subscription.

4. Your content

You own the data you put into Next Read — your library, ratings, reviews, and notes ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate and improve the app for you (for example, sending relevant parts of your library to our AI provider to answer a question you asked). We don't sell Your Content or use it to train third-party AI models. You can export Your Content anytime and, per our Privacy Policy, request full deletion.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

6. Intellectual property

Next Read, its design, and its underlying software are owned by Shiloh Software, LLC and protected by intellectual property law. These Terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or branding beyond what's needed to use the app normally.

7. Third-party services

Next Read relies on third-party services to work — including Apple (sign-in, payments), Supabase (data storage), Anthropic (AI features), and public book-data sources. Your use of Next Read is also subject to Apple's own terms for the App Store and in-app purchases.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

Next Read is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any recommendation, score, or AI-generated answer will be accurate or complete.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Shiloh Software, LLC won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of Next Read. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app or a subscription won't exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.

10. Termination

You may stop using Next Read and delete your account at any time (see Privacy for how). We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms. Canceling a subscription doesn't automatically delete your account or data — those are separate actions.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the app changes. If a change is material, we'll update the date above and, where required by law, provide additional notice before it takes effect. Continuing to use Next Read after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise (including certain consumer protections in your own state or country that these Terms don't override).
